Nas to Sponsor Technology Scholarships for African Americans and Latinos

New York’s General Assembly is seeking to increase diversity in the technology field and with the help of Hip Hop legend, Nas and a few other corporations, soon they will be able to make that happen.
Nas will join Google, Microsoft, and Hirepurpose in sponsoring technology scholarships for students. General Assembly’s  “Opportunity Fund will offer scholarships to women, veterans, African-Americans, and Latinos, because these groups have systemically been denied access to the sciences. So, Google will provide scholarships for women, Microsoft and Hirepurpose will sponsor Latinos and veteran’s scholarships. Last, but certainly not least Nas’ QueensBridge Venture Partners will sponsor both African-American and Latino students.

Nas Provides Scholarships for Students Interested in Technology

nas

In April, Black Enterprise reported that Hip Hop artist, Nas, has partnered with Google, Microsoft, and Hirepurpose to fund scholarships for underrepresented groups. The programs will provide web development training for tech students.
The program also allows the scholarship recipients the chance to give back. As noted by General Assembly, recipients become Fellows and volunteers 100+ hours mentoring youth in partnership with select technology education nonprofit organizations. Kudos to Nas; sounds like a win-win situation for all interested parties!

Nas Takes Lead to Help Raise $40,000 for DC Family

Nas

Nas has come to the aid of  Stanley Young, a DC man,  single father of 8 children and an unemployed construction worker after their home was destroyed by fire in late July.  The Young family has been forced to live in a hotel since then and were scheduled to be evicted August 13th.  Enter God Son and he took on his own to donate $5,000 of his own money to the Young’s.  In addition and more impactful was Nas taking to social media and the fundraising site Crwodtilt.com to start a campaign to raise funds for the family.  As news spread the campaign quickly reached their initial goal of $20,000.  As he had promised Nas donated another $5,000 to the fund himself.  As of this update the campaign has raised over $60,000!  Visit https://www.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/help-the-young-family/ to make a donation, the Crowdtilt fundraiser runs until August 18th, 2013.
